Boudoir Model Call: A Retro Styled Shoot

I do love boudoir model calls! My stylist and I get to try out new ideas and a lucky lady gets to be pampered and a model for a day (not to mention a free session and a sweet discount on her purchase). To pamper my future clients even more, I’m introducing a boudoir closet. As I’m collecting new pieces, I will announcing more model calls so you can see what the pieces actually look like on. If you’ve been toying with the idea of booking a session and don’t mind your images being used for promotion, now is the time to jump on this opportunity!

Today, I’ve put together two totally different mood boards for some gorgeous inspiration.

One for a cozy yet sensual girl next door vibe. And one for a sultry, powerful, provocative look. Enjoy!

My Latest Makeup Obsessions

Do soft pink MAC lipsticks and shimmery golden shadows make you weak in the knees?

It’s okay, you can admit it. You’re in the presence of a fellow beauty geek. Welcome.

I’m a boudoir photographer. It’s no secret I love all things feminine. Makeup has been responsible for making my heart race since I was a toddler and could get into my mom’s makeup stash. Finding new makeup companies is like opening presents on Christmas morning (forget the diamonds-just give me makeup and camera gear). And now that we have Instagram, I can search for new makeup brands and bloggers until my eyes cross and my vision goes blurry.

One of my lovely friends let me in on a little secret. There is a company called Coastal Scents that has makeup brushes for a few dollars and they were better than the expensive Bobby Brown brushes she had used previously. So immediately, my heart-rate goes up as blood rushes to my face at the excitement of a new find. But wait-it’s cheap so something has to be wrong with it, right?? Why else did I shell out $24 for a kabuki brush from Sigma?! I do adore this brush, but let’s get on to the good stuff…

Intrigued, I hopped on the Coastal Scents site as soon as I had a free minute to check out these brushes. But there were so many. My mind was overwhelmed and I almost shut down (ever heard the quote “a confused mind says no”? Well it’s true). So I reasoned with myself. I love makeup. I will never be without makeup. It makes me happy. And I think the 22 Piece Brush Set would make me happy. It has a little bit of everything and was on sale for $34.95. Done.

But then I saw the eyeshadow palettes, and I had been dying to get my hands on one of those. My coveted Jaclyn Hill’s Favorites Palette from Morphe was sold out, and I was having a little pity party in my head. And there it was-the 120 Palette with beautiful warm tones in a combination of shimmery, satin and matte. For $19.95. Again, red flag goes up and I think, “these shadows have got to be crap”. But for that cheap, I figured I’d try it out.

You’re probably wondering what I thought of the products…

These brushes are pretty amazing for the price! Great for blending shadows! I still prefer my Sigma F80 Kabuki Brush for my foundation, but overall I’m super impressed with these. And the carrying case is perfect for storage and traveling.

The shadows were actually better than I expected. The medium-dark shades are super pigmented and only have slight fall-out. The very light shades take some layering to really see the color, but at this price point I expected it. The colors blend together seamlessly and it was definitely worth the price! I’m really loving the pinks at the moment!

The Easiest Christmas Gift You’ll Ever Give {Boudoir Photography, Illinois}

I love Christmas. Holiday music is welcome in my home in October. Even though I was devastated when I finally manipulated my mom into admitting Santa wasn’t real, I still get all warm and happy inside when I think of the holiday season. It’s also no secret that I have a love affair with shopping. I was telling my friend the other day that I could be a professional gift giver–hmm is that a thing?! I would dominate at that…

Back to the point here. While I love finding unique, sentimental gifts for my loved ones that make them cry after they open it (yes I secretly enjoy this), my husband is a whole. other. story. Every year, every holiday/birthday I am dumbfounded on what to get him. He refuses to tell me anything he wants and when he does want something, he friggin goes out to buy it right away!

*note to my hubby-help a girl out!!

Ladies, please tell me I’m not alone here. Are your husbands/significant others just as hard to buy for? Does it make you want to pull your hair out just trying to think of a gift good enough for him??

I’m going to let you in on a little secret…

Are you ready?

Okay, so think of something your man loves and will never get tired of (well let’s cross our fingers right lol?!)

It’s YOU my dear.

Boudoir photography is the godsend for women with hard-to-buy-for men. Last year for our anniversary, I had my own session with a fab photographer friend in Danville (btw look up Bethany Burt of Rose Colored Glasses Photography if you need an amazing wedding photog) and surprised my hubby with a gorgeous 10×10 hot pink (because he regularly wears hot pink dress shirts-yes I’m being serious) linen album filled to the brim with my gorgeous images. He adored it!! Best anniversary gift EVER! Then Christmas came around 4 months later and I’m like “well crap, what am I supposed to get him now?”

Can you guess what I did?

I took my own boudoir self portraits. BOOM. Now that was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done. It’s really hard to put on your sexy face when you’re freaking frustrated as hell with your remote timer and all you want to do is throw it into the wall…

But I pulled it off and quite beautifully I might add. This time, I ordered an album with a crystal cover, which made the album even heavier but feels so luxurious. He might have been speechless when he opened this one…and that’s a good reaction to have. He still looks at both albums (as do I, especially when I need a self-esteem boost), and I think I could give him a new album every single year and he would never tire of it. Speaking of feeling appreciated-hang your fave portrait in a gorgeous modern frame in your bedroom. Now that is the perfect start to any day!

So ladies, my friends, let me help you out this year. Let me take the burden of finding the perfect gift off of your shoulders. Give yourself a morning to be completely pampered by my truly fabulous stylist, Morgan, as you have your hair styled into those sexy Victoria Secret waves and your makeup expertly applied like your favorite beauty vlogger. Are you always in yoga pants or boring work clothes? Let’s glam it up like the gorgeous vixen that’s inside of you! Do you love feeling sexy in your favorite cheeky undies and a white tank–who doesn’t love the natural Jennifer Aniston look?

The whole point of a boudoir shoot is not for me to dress you up how I want to dress you. It’s about fulfilling your dreams of how you’ve always longed to be photographed. But if you feel hopeless when it comes to choosing flattering outfits and lingerie, I’ve got you covered. I am now offering an amazing personal stylist (and former rockstar client) at your disposal!! For an extra (totally worth it) fee, you will be able to have a phone consultation with her where you’ll discuss the areas you want to show off and any problem areas that you aren’t so crazy about. She’ll recommend types of lingerie or clothes to flatter your figure and will work with you on a private Pinterest board to help you shop. But wait…you need more help than that. You’re utterly clueless when it comes to choosing pieces for your body type. My wonderful Sarah will go shopping with you! And let me tell you-she is one of the most enthusiastic, lovable individuals you will ever meet. You will fall in love with her and her ability to dress you like a Hollywood starlet gracing the cover of GQ magazine.

It’s my personal guarantee that you will walk out of your photoshoot feeling confident as hell and ready to take on the world. And when your hubby opens his gorgeous album?? Expect to be treated like a freaking queen and be prepared to go to bed early that night…

Lifestyle Nursing Portraits

I had a love/hate relationship with nursing my babies. With my first one, Bella, I was young, overwhelmed and severely sleep-deprived (some might say I was a crazy emotional person). A 24 hour labor and birthing a 10 pound 3 oz. baby took a toll on me, and then add in latching on problems…there were tears. Lots of tears. I only lasted a few months with my first baby, but no matter how I was feeding her, I loved that quiet time together. The way she looked up into my eyes…it was like seeing into her soul. No words can describe that deep, overpowering feeling of love and gratitude that comes with bonding with your baby.

With my second little one, Elsa, well this was a different story. This girl was born to be on the boob! We had a little trouble with nursing in the hospital, but I called in those wonderful nurses many times to help me until I got the hang of it again. I remember Elsa holding onto my finger as she nursed and she would look intensely up into my eyes. Her eyes have always been wise beyond her years. It made me think, “what’s going on in that little mind of yours?”. Long story short, Elsa never cared to take a bottle of breast-milk if my hubby and I wanted a night out. I was on a strict 2 hour schedule. We would be out with friends and all of the sudden, it’s like “uh-oh! feeding time! time to go!” This lasted until Elsa was 2 years old. At first, I was a bit restless, having to be home so much, working less, and laying around nursing when there were so many things that needed to get done. But then I realized, this wonderful, silly little girl needs me the most. She needs the nourishment only I can give her, she needs the emotional security that comes with nursing, and everything else can wait. This only lasts a short time. And I want to cherish it.

I tearfully weaned Elsa for good the day before her third birthday. My husband and I were leaving for Portland, Oregon the following day (I know I know we’re bad parents, leaving on her birthday-but we did throw her an awesome party the week before) so it was time. I do enjoy the freedom that comes with not having a child attached to my chest anymore, but God do I miss it. Those snuggles, watching her play with her little feet, feeling her skin on mine. What pains me the most is that I never had anyone capture those sweet moments. I was so wrapped up in photographing other people and building my business that I forgot to slow down and hire someone to document my life.

I’m so happy to be offering lifestyle nursing sessions for other mamas. And if you aren’t nursing, don’t let that hold you back from booking a session! It’s not necessarily about how you’re feeding your baby-it’s more about the emotional bonding that comes with it. That’s what I want to document. That’s what you want to remember.

A mama of two seriously adorable little ones came to my home for a relaxed 20 minute nursing session this morning. While it was wonderful and so fulfilling to be able to gift her these images, I wouldn’t be lying if I said I teared up watching her video. I so wish I had images like these of my babies and I. Don’t wait. They are only little once.
